Our Love Story
We met back in 2004 at the Benton County Fair. I was part of the night's entertainment. He had come by to listen and ended up with my number. We met again two years later at the Benton County Fair, and he got my number again. We then lost track of each other until shortly after I turned 21. I was at Spanky's on a date with someone else and having a lousy time. I'll never forget Jessie's pickup line, "Hey, aren't you Chandra's cousin?" It was absolutely priceless. He ended up with my number again that night. We dated off and on for a couple of years. We lost track of each other, and I had moved on as I'm sure he had as well. Then we started talking again last year, and we just fell back into that old routine we had.
The Proposal
Jessie was over for the weekend. It was a beautiful cloudy day. We got up super early and went to breakfast at Nana's Cafe. We were just hanging out with mom and dad when dad said he was getting ready to leave for his motorcycle club meeting. Jessie walked outside about five minutes before daddy. When Jessie came back, he had a huge smile on his face. I told him that it must have gone well. He said yes it did and that daddy had given him his blessing. Around 1 p.m., Jessie and I went to Subway to get lunch for him, mom and me. We came back, ate lunch, and then he was like "I wanna go to the lake." I said fine but you're driving, being my normal stubborn self. We went down to the staircase at Lake Eucha. I was excited about walking down the staircase to the water. He was like "Babe, why don't you stay up here for a minute." I was like, "I don't want to." He said, "Just stay here for a minute." When I turned around to walk back up the staircase he was down on one knee. I put my hands up to my face and started to cry. He said, "Rachel Rae Herbaugh, I love you with all my heart. Will you marry me?" I was crying tears of joy as I said yes.
